Digital national currency for Ukraine is possible?

Officials of the National Bank of Ukraine have stated via Facebook page that thee are looking into the possibility of introducing digital hryvnias (national currency of Ukraine).


The statement was posted on January 11 and stated that the National Bank is studying the new technologies as part of “Cashless economy project” and there is a special place for new e-hryvnia in it. The project is still up for discussion and the decision is far away from being set in stone, but there are certain movements in that direction.

The officials are putting extra attention in the fact that they are NOT working on the national cryptocurrency bur merely thinking about creating digital hryvnias that will not be based on Blockchain technology.
