Last couple of days prove that the crypto world is no stranger to quite dangerous yet interesting mishaps.
A week ago, an unofficial app for MyEtherWallet.com was published in the app store and in the week that it has gone unnoticed it managed to reach the third most popular spot in the PAID – FINANCES categories of the store.
The danger of the app resided in the fact that once all the data were put inside, it would send over all the client’s assets to the schemers, leaving the wallet itself empty. It also seems that the creator of the app was gaining access to the encrypted keys which give one full power over other people’s wallets. Moreover, it cost 45 to use the wallet.
This occasion gained vast popularity and public response. Official MyEtherWallet has issued an official complaint to Apple and stated the real app, so that to avoid further confusion.
And today there was a continuation of bad luck for MEW. Etherium’s developers – BLUE, have written in their official Twitter that it was not safe to use MEW with their services as they believed the resource to be hacked. There was a whole thread of such tweets, but MyEtherWallet official have already responded, saying that the claims are not true, and the resource is as safe as always.
